Day 98: End of Week 14

Today was so busy (and stressful) that I didn't get a chance to go see the house until very late. We drove by but didn't get out or go inside. Tomorrow... tomorrow...

Day 97: Pre Drywall Orientation

Today I met with Raymond, the construction superintendent, for my Pre Drywall Orientation. Basically we went over what had been done so far, where we are on the timeline, and what to expect from here on.

Day 96: Foam, Spray, Security... Oh My!

Today we found more supplies delivered for the driveway. When we ventured inside, we saw the house had been foamed sealed and then sprayed with some sort of blue stuff which I've since learned is called Bora Care. Its a required termite preventative that all FHA backed loans must have done. It makes the wood completely untouchable by termites. Sweet, right?! I also noticed the house had its security system installed. We saw some new pieces installed on the ceiling as well as a couple of attic vents. The braker box appears to have gotten hooked up, too. And my kitchen island has been reinforced. The kids found that they had drywall in their rooms so we couldnt walk around much. We found a few more random pieces to add to our treasure box, too.

Day 95: Iced Again

School was cancelled again today. We finally crept out of the house around 2pm once the ice melted. I still see some on the rooftops.  No one is here working today. Can't blame them either. It's only 35 degrees out.

Day 94: A Look at the Process Map

Now that we're in Week 14, let's take a look at what KB's Process Map says. Looks like we're all done with the first two things on that list under 'Weeks 11-14'. Thursday I will have my Pre-Drywall Orientation with Raymond, the construction superintendent. Im eager to go to this meeting, ask questions and get answers to little things that I've been wondering about. That will finish up that list.

We have piles upon piles of brick sitting all around the house. I think they'll probably get put on this week. That part is really going to intrigue me as you know how much I struggled with choosing one.

That will take us into Week 15. Since our wiring is done, I think security still has to come out and install their system before drywall goes up. After that, the inside of the house is really going to start taking shape. It will be so much fun to see the cabinets and counters get put in. To see the flooring and paint. Im going to be on one long thrill ride this next month.

After all of that happens, Raymond and I will have another meeting to walk thru the house and make note of all the little things that might need tweaking, repairing, replacing, fixing and such. I plan on spending a while in the house, making a list or using sticky notes and making sure the house is perfect.

Then we go to closing and get to move in!

We also now have a couple of huge piles of sheetrock along with a big pile of dirt that's been delivered.

New Neighbors!

Today while we were going to see the house, we discovered that there was a sold sign on the lot next to ours! It appears to be an older couple as we've seen them drive by a couple times.

The girls and I also took our dog to the Bark Park today where we ran into our other new neighbors, Mike and Esther! Small world? Or maybe God just wants us to be good friends. It was nice seeing them, and meeting two more of their dogs. Its times like these when I am happy Georgetown is still "small town".

Day 93: Wiring

Lots of exciting things to see today. We now have wiring!

Day 91: Electrical Roughed In

Went over to check out the house and discovered ice! The water in the tubs was frozen. There was ice on the glass windows and icicles on the tension rods that still stick out of the slab. The girls thought that was cool to see.

We also noticed there were a lot of piles of brick. That will be really neat to see going up. There are outlet boxes in all the rooms and switch boxes where out light switches will be. You can see the breaker box in the one pic below.

Day 90: First Ice

Today we're getting some sleet that is accumulating. Overnight we're expected to have some snow, too.

I see we also got brick delivered!

Day 89: Standing Water in Kitchen

Today I stopped by without the kids on my way home and discovered a large puddle in the kitchen. You could see where the water seeped under the wood into the garage, too. When Raymond, the new construction superintendent, came over to inspect, he informed me that the kitchen pipe was opened and realigned so it would fit into the drywall. The water in the pipe must have been what spewed out everywhere. All of the pipes everywhere else looked to be in good shape, no leaks. We did see that the plumber had been upstairs however no leaks there.

I also asked him what they do for the pipes when we have freezing weather, which we're supposed to have tomorrow. He advised that they would turn the water off and drain the line so that the pipes don't burst. I was glad to hear that!

Not much else is going on here. I did see that the main house is shingled, porches not yet. I didn't take a picture but will tomorrow and post it back here.

Day 88: Fixing the Problem

Raymond sent over a picture this morning showing the problem area was demolished today. Good riddance! Im happy and relieved to see that they are taking care of this. I am thankful to KB, Chance and Raymond for offering such great customer service in getting this handled.

In other related news, I heard from Jaime today about locking in an interest rate. Ive locked in and have a closing date tentatively set for March 26th!

The plumber installed the tubs and shower yesterday however I was pretty unhappy at the time and didn't bother snapping a pic so I did today. And, we got shingles delivered today!

Day 87: The Puddle

Today the kids and I had a late lunch with my mom then afterwards she took the kids while I went over to see the house. I was looking forward to having a few minutes alone in my house.

However, as I was walking around, I spotted a puddle in the pantry area. With the new plumbing close by, I checked to see if there was a leak. No, there wasn't anything dripping from any pipe. All of the wood was dry so I knew there wasn't a leak upstairs.

This puddle was a mystery. I bent down closer to inspect and caught a whiff. Urine! Uhh.... now I'm angry. Someone peed in my pantry? What a vulgar pig!

I know it wasn't an animal's mark because there was too much. Plus, there were crews all around on other homesites with delivery trucks and loud noises. No, this was most definitely human, and deliberate.

I snapped a couple of pictures and immediately shot them off to my salesman and construction superintendent.  Chance called me and I explained what I found.  Within minutes Raymond arrived and took a look at the problem.

I did notice that now the puddle was soaking into the slab somewhat which tells me that this was done very recently. Raymond was angry as much as I was and called someone. He advised it would be cleaned and the wood removed and replaced.

I guess I should be glad that I went over there but instead I'm sad that someone chose to purposely deface my house, damaging it and tarnishing my excitement of building my first home.

I know KB will make this right. Raymond is seeing to that, however it sure makes me wish I could lock up the house.
